Most people cannot work at same location for his/her lifetime for various reasons and have to change the job, which is most possibly far away from the initialy bought house close to previous workplace. Changing house in Belgium involves a high cost due to taxes. People have to work for years to save just this cost. That forces people to commute from their first house to new workplace, which is now far away. I can propose two possible solutions: 1. Cancel house buying & mortgage taxes (Revenue loss can be compansated with an increase in revenue cadastral if needed) 2. Cancel house buying & mortgage taxes in case people buys a new house and sells their previous house in some certain period.
